Living History Tour

Tour the Library with one of our 'original' staff!

More than 100 years after his death, John Linwood Pitts, the original curator of the Guille-Allès Library and Museum, returns to lead a tour of the iconic Library building. Mr Pitts (played by John Gaisford from the Guernsey History in Action Company) will explain how his friends Thomas Guille and Frederick Allès were inspired by libraries they encountered while living in New York, and how they managed in the 1880s to fulfil their lifelong dream of opening a library in Guernsey.

The tour takes in the whole building, including the newly refurbished Story Tower and some areas not normally open to the public. Mr Pitts will share stories from the Library's long history, from its earliest days through the Great War and the Occupation to the present.

Perfect for fans of local history. The tour begins at 18.00 on Thursday 10 December - it's free but booking is essential.
