When Daniel Mauger retired, Thomas and Frederick took over the Manhattan business, and became extremely successful. By the 1860s, Guille & Allès Interior Decorators was one of the firms of choice for wealthy New Yorkers wishing to redecorate their homes.
They had a shop in Manhattan, on the triangular junction of Fifth Avenue and Broadway – the exact spot where, a few decades later, the famous Flatiron Building would be constructed.
This photograph was taken in 1880 - Thomas had returned to Guernsey by that time, but Frederick was still there. The firm's shop is either the second or third building along from the end.
