FAQS

Why donate to the Library?

The Library is a vital community hub. But the service Guernsey depends on requires significant investment. As a registered charity, we welcome donations, bequests, and sponsorships in addition to our annual grant from the States of Guernsey.

The service has never been more important. Books remain at the heart of what we do – giving children and adults free access to reading has huge benefits for our whole society. The Library also provides a wide range of other free services, events and initiatives that improve people’s lives in all sorts of ways – from reducing loneliness and isolation, to tackling digital exclusion, to supporting mental health and wellbeing.

The Library is for everyone, and its popularity is increasing – footfall, membership, and book loans have all shot up in recent years. The people of Guernsey love their Library, and they need their Library. Your donation helps ensure that we can continue to meet that need.

Why should I donate to the Library when there are so many other worthy causes to support?

We understand that giving to charity is a very personal choice. We certainly don’t claim to be more in need or have a better cause than other charities. However, it’s true that the library service has a broad impact across the community – everyone can benefit from it, from newborn babies all the way up to their grandparents and great-grandparents, from 0-100. We’d love to raise awareness about the work we do and the impact we have, so you can be well informed when you make your decision about where to donate. We’re extremely grateful for all the support we receive.
