RSS Feeds and Social Bookmarking on the Guille-Allès Library website

To help people keep up-to-date with what’s happening at Guille-Allès Library we’ve added RSS Feeds and Social Bookmarks to the Library website.
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and it is a file format for delivering regularly updated information over the web.

Just think about the websites you visit every day. It takes time to visit those sites and scour the ad-filled and image-heavy pages for just the text you want to read. Imagine if you could visit all those web pages in just one place without being bombarded with advertising, without having to search for new information on the page you’d already seen or read before and without having to consume a lot of time visiting each site individually. That is what you can do via an RSS feed.
You can use RSS feeds either directly with Internet Explorer or with a feed reader, such as Google Reader.
Social bookmarking allows you to easily save pages you find interesting on-line and share them with your friends.
For quick and simply guides to RSS feeds and Social Bookmarking have a look at the Common Craft videos below.

The Guille-Allès Library now boasts a wireless hotspot accessible to islanders free of charge.
Users of the Library can connect to the World Wide Web using laptops, hand held WiFi devices, and other compatible gadgets.

Sure has provided the broadband connection to the library free, and product manager for Sure’s broadband services, Steve Lawrence, said that the company is pleased to support the community. “Anyone using the Library will now have access to the world’s greatest tool. It is great that we are in a position to support the Guille-Allès Library, and hope that the new installation gets plenty of use,” he said.

Laura Milligan, Deputy Chief Librarian, said that the Guille-Allès Library is pleased to be working with Sure to provide free WiFi access. “By introducing wireless internet we are bringing our technology up-to-date for all Library users. We expect the WiFi Hotspot will prove very popular with those needing internet access for business, study, and leisure purposes,” she said.

The library also has four fixed terminals connected to the Sure broadband which Bailiwick residents can use for free.
