Guille-Allès Library Assistant, Shirley Hartnett, has been named Frontline Trainee of the month, by national training company Opening the Book.
An online, interactive course, Frontline helps develop Library staff skills, both in creating eye-catching displays and in talking about and recommending books to readers.
All Guille-Allès Library staff are currently undertaking the training, alongside around 5,500 other Library staff in libraries around the world.
Mrs Hartnett’s displays for readers with visual impairment caught the attention of the course’s national coordinators and lead them to name her Trainee of the Month for March 2010.
Chief Librarian, Maggie Falla, was delighted to hear that Mrs Hartnett has been choosen as Trainee of the Month. “It is an indication of the enthusiam with which Shirley and her colleagues have taken up the Frontline course and of the impact it is having on their day-to-day work”, she said.

Extra Weekly T.O.T.S Session

RSS Feeds and Social Bookmarking on the Guille-Allès Library website

To help people keep up-to-date with what’s happening at Guille-Allès Library we’ve added RSS Feeds and Social Bookmarks to the Library website.
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and it is a file format for delivering regularly updated information over the web.

Just think about the websites you visit every day. It takes time to visit those sites and scour the ad-filled and image-heavy pages for just the text you want to read. Imagine if you could visit all those web pages in just one place without being bombarded with advertising, without having to search for new information on the page you’d already seen or read before and without having to consume a lot of time visiting each site individually. That is what you can do via an RSS feed.
You can use RSS feeds either directly with Internet Explorer or with a feed reader, such as Google Reader.
Social bookmarking allows you to easily save pages you find interesting on-line and share them with your friends.
For quick and simply guides to RSS feeds and Social Bookmarking have a look at the Common Craft videos below.
