Guille-Alles – this means the item is on the open shelves in the Guille-Alles Library. This includes the Children’s Library (the shelf mark code will be show as Junior or J), the CD Music Library and the DVD and Video collections.
Stack – this means the item is in a store. Please ask the staff for assistance. However, the Fiction Store is accessible to the public and can be accessed via the stairs by the Enquiry Desk in the Assembly Room.
Professional Library – these items are about libraries and related subjects. Please ask the staff for assistance.
Schools’ Library Service - this service is primarily for teachers and other education service staff. Please ask staff in the Children’s Library for assistance.
Large Print – these books are shelved on the ground floor of the library in the Entrance Hall.
Clifton Room – Subjects such as Religion, sociology, sciences, cookery, DIY (class numbers beginning with 0 1 2 3 5 or 6) are shelved here on the first floor of the library.
Fiction – all categories of fiction are shelved on the first floor. Books are in the Assembly Room; spoken word on cassette and cd are in the Reading Room.
Children’s items – these all have J at the beginning of the class number and are shelved in the Children’s Library on the first floor.
Teenage Collection - is shelved in the Assembly Room on the first floor.
Jigsaws – are shelved on the landing between the Entrance Hall and the first floor.
Hayward Room – Subjects such as art, language, literature, sport and music (class numbers beginning with 4 7 or 8) are shelved here on the second floor of the library.
Local Studies – these items all have L at the beginning of the class number, e.g.LF942 and are shelved in the Hayward Room on the second floor.
Printed music – these items all have M at the beginning of the class number. They are shelved in the Music Library on the second floor.
Music CDs – these have the category name, e.g. Classical Composers. They are shelved in the Music Library on the second floor.
Videos and DVDs – these are on the second floor landing, outside the Hayward Room.
Hayward Gallery – subjects such as history and travel (class number beginning with 9) are shelved on the gallery in the Hayward Room on the second floor.
NB If you require items from any of the other Guernsey libraries listed in the catalogue, i.e. the Priaulx Library, Guernsey College of Education or the Institute of Health Studies Library, you will need to contact the individual libraries direct about borrowing facilities. You will need to join each library separately to benefit from their services.
