Computers in the library
The Children’s Library has free internet access for all library members. You have to register and your parents or carers have to sign a form to say they accept responsibility for you using the Internet. If you are not a member of the library, you can use the service for half an hour for £1.00.
To book in advance, phone the library on 743635.
Guidelines for young people using library computers
- There is a lot of information on the Internet, but you need to be careful about how you use it. It is up to you to use the net safely and sensibly. For further information, take a look at BBC Chat Guide, kidsmart , Chat Danger and Thinkuknow
- If you see anything that worries or upsets you, tell a member of the library staff at once.
- Don’t give out information about yourself, don’t give your address, telephone number, picture or school.
- Don’t arrange to meet anyone you do not know
- Don’t open e-mails from people you do not know, and if any messages make you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents or carers
- Anybody can put things on the Internet, and they may not always be right. Click on Study Zone to get help in choosing good sites.
- Printing from the Internet or e-mail costs 20p per sheet unless it is for homework, then it is free.
- Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by a responsible adult when using the Internet.
