Bookstart

The Guille-Allès Library is very pleased to be involved with Bookstart.  It is a national scheme run in conjunction with Booktrust, which is an independent book charity.  Bookstart was launched in Guernsey in 1999.  It is designed to encourage parents to share books with their children from a very young age.

At their eight months check-up, babies receive a book bag from their health visitor.  In the bag are two books, a place mat, guides to using books with babies and information about the library, including an application form to join the library.

Bookstart+

All children aged 2 living in the Bailiwick of Guernsey will receive a  Bookstart+ bag from their health visitor at their 2 year check-up.

Bookstart+ builds on the principles of Bookstart.  Each Bookstart+ bag contains two books, a number frieze, crayons and a colouring in pad, a guide to using books with toddlers and information about the library services available to pre-school children in Guernsey.

Bookstart Treasure Chests.

As the name suggests, the Treasure Chest is a box which is filled with books, a colouring book and pencils, bookplates and information for parents and carers. It is available for all 3 year olds in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

The Treasure Chests are kept at the Children’s Library and are given in exchange for a voucher, which is available at preschools, pre-receptions and the Guille-Allès Children’s Library.

Remember, nobody is too young to join the library.  We have a wide range of resources for pre-school children and activities happening throughout the year.  Click on the Notice Board for details about future events.
