How do I renew my loans?
Loans may be renewed provided no-one else is waiting for the item(s).
There are several ways of renewing loans:
Telephone the Renewals Line on 713363. You will be asked for your library card number or the item barcode numbers.
Call into the library with the items or their barcode numbers or your library card
Via the library website. Click on the online catalogue link on the Home page and then on My Account. You will need your library card number. For more information on how to renew on-line, click here.
Items may be renewed up to six times. After that, you will be asked to bring your loans back to the library for checking before any further renewals can be made.
How can I reserve items which are already on loan?
You can request any item that is already on loan or not already in stock. Items may be purchased if they are considered suitable to add to stock. Please note there is a charge for this service at the Guille - Allès Library and the Priaulx Library.
You can request items in several ways:
Call in to the library and fill out a request form.
Telephone the main library number (720392) with the details of the item you wish to request. Details may also be sent by fax (712425) or by post.
Items may also be reserved via the website. For more detailed information on how to reserve on-line click here. Please note that you may only reserve items already in stock at the Guille - Allès Library by this method. If you want to reserve an item that is On Order or request an item that is not in stock please contact a member of staff.

When is the library open?
Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Closed Sundays, Public Holidays and other days as advertised.
How can I join the library?
Joining the library is FREE and open to anyone who is a resident of Guernsey. We need to see some form of identification and proof of your address in Guernsey. Acceptable forms of ID include: Guernsey driving licence, gas, electricity, telephone or water bills, bank statements, etc. If you are not a permanent resident in Guernsey visitor tickets are available but a £15 returnable deposit is required.
If you are under 16 your parent or guardian must sign your application form.
You will need to bring your borrower card with you each time you visit the library and you are responsible for all items borrowed on it. Please look after it and report its loss immediately. There is a charge for replacement cards.
How many items can I borrow?
Up to TWELVE items may be borrowed at any one time. This total may include any combination of items.
However, only three DVDs may be borrowed at a time.
Loan periods:
All items may be borrowed for three weeks.
Items returned after the date due back will incur an overdue charge.
You will also have to pay the replacement value of any items lost or damaged.
Can I use the internet and check my e-mail in the library?
You can use the Internet for FREE at the Guille-Allès Library
There are four Internet terminals available in the adult library and four in the junior library. The junior library terminals may be used in term time only up to 3.15 pm by adult users. Otherwise, these are solely for the use of junior members. If you are not a member of the library you may use the internet service for a small fee. This is currently £1.00 for a half hour session.
- Free access is available for anyone with a resident’s Guille-Allès library card or visitor’s card. Users under the age of 16 must have their registration card signed by a parent or legal guardian.
- Half-hour sessions can be booked throughout the day. There is a high demand for this service so booking is essential. You may book a maximum of two sessions at one time. Please be prepared to quote your library card number when booking and to show your card when you attend your session.
- You may print out web pages and e-mails on a colour printer for a small charge.
- Free e-mail services are available from dozens of web sites. All you need to do is to complete an application form on screen. You are then able to send and receive e-mails via the web site with which you have registered. Please note that, due to security issues, attachments to e-mails may not be sent or received
- Introductory training sessions may be arranged when a member of staff will explain the basics of using the Internet. There is a charge for each session. Please contact the library for details.
